In dit artikel zal ik proberen om licht te werpen op wie God precies is. Daarbij moet ik zeggen dat woorden tekortschieten in het beschrijven van God, en dat het menselijke verstand te beperkt is om de Grootheid van God volledig te begrijpen. De volledige Koran getuigt van de Liefde, Barmhartigheid, Almacht en Grootheid van God. In dit artikel zal ik me daarom uitsluitend richten op enkele aspecten.

Eerst noteer ik het vers uit de Koran, waarna ik mijn reflecties over dit vers in cursief zal schrijven. Ik wil benadrukken dat mijn reflecties persoonlijk van aard zijn en niet als feiten moeten worden beschouwd. De verzen uit de Koran zijn wel feiten. Ik gebruik hiervoor de vertaling van de Koran van Sam Gerrans.

2:163 And your God is One God. There is no god save He, the Almighty, the Merciful.
De meest belangrijke eigenschap van God is Zijn Eenheid. Er is slechts één God en er zijn naast Hem geen partners.

3:150 The truth is, God is your protector; and He is the best of helpers.
God is groter dan alle problemen, stress, moeilijkheden die je in jouw leven ervaart. God waakt over Zijn schepping. God is Degene die jou beschermt en helpt, dag in dag uit.

4:171 O doctors of the Law: exceed not bounds in your doctrine, nor ascribe to God save the truth. The Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary was only the messenger of God, and His word which He conveyed to Mary, and a spirit from Him. So believe in God and His messengers, and say not: “Thrinity.” Desist; it is best for you. God is but One God. Glory be to Him that He should have a son! To Him belongs what is in the heavens and what is in the earth; and God is sufficient as disposer of affairs.
In deze vers heeft God het over Isa Ibn Maryam (Jezus, zoon van Maria). God corrigeert de verkeerde denkwijze van de christenen. God maakt duidelijk dat Hij geen zoon heeft en dat Hij niet deel uitmaakt van een drievuldigheid. Alles op deze aarde en in de hemel behoort aan God toe. God is De Heerser over alle zaken, degene die verantwoordelijk is voor het beheer van Zijn schepping door middel van Zijn Kennis, Zijn Zorg, Zijn Volmaakte Macht en Zijn Alomvattende Wijsheid.

7:54 Your Lord is God, who created the heavens and the earth in six days, then established Himself upon the Throne. He covers the night, the day hastening after it swiftly, and the sun and the moon and the stars are subject by His command. In truth, His are the creation and the command. Blessed be God, the Lord of All Creation!
God heeft de hemelen en de aarde geschapen, en elk levend wezen. De zon, maan, sterren, wolken, regen, wind en aarde worden door niemand anders aangestuurd dan God.

39:7 If you deny — God is free from need of you. And He is not pleased, for His servants, with denial. And if you are grateful, He is pleased therewith for you. And no bearer bears the burden of another; then to your Lord is your return, and He will inform you of what you did; He knows what is in the breasts.
God heeft ons gebed, ons berouw, onze dankbaarheid en onze lof niet nodig. God Zijn Kracht wordt niet vergroot door onze gebeden, noch wordt Hij machtiger door onze aanbidding. Het is niet God die iets van ons nodig heeft, maar wij zijn degenen die afhankelijk zijn van Hem. De terugkeer naar God is onvermijdelijk. Op die dag laat God jou weten wat je allemaal gedaan hebt. God kent jouw gedachten, geheimen, verlangens, drijfveren, kortom God weet alles over jou.

40:6 And your Lord said: “Call to Me — I will respond to you!”
You can’t hear God, but He hears all your conversations. You can’t see God, but He sees all that you do.
You can, however, feel God, as He is always there. You can talk to God, as He is The One Who always listens.

43:3-5 In the heavens and the earth are proofs for the believers;
And in your creation and the creatures He scatters in the earth are proofs for people who are certain;
And in the alternation of night and day, and in what God sends down from the sky of provision and gives life thereby to the earth after its death, and in the circulation of the winds are proofs for people who reason.
God zorgt voor al zijn creaties. Wanneer een vogel zijn dag begint, raakt hij niet in paniek over het gebrek aan voedsel of de onzekerheid van de toekomst. De vogel is zich ervan bewust dat God aanwezig is, dat hij deel uitmaakt van God’s schepping en dat God hem zal voorzien. Als God ervoor zorgt dat een mier, een mug en een kever voedsel krijgen, dan zal Hij jou, als mens, ongetwijfeld ook voorzien.

58:7 Dost thou not see that God knows what is in the heavens and what is in the earth? There is no private conversation of three save He is their fourth, nor of five save He is their sixth — nor of less than that, nor of greater, save He is with them wherever they may be; then will He inform them of what they did on the Day of Resurrection. God knows all things.
Er bestaat niet zoiets als een geheim gesprek op deze aarde. God hoort alle gesprekken, ongeacht of je fluistert of roept. Op de Dag van het Oordeel zal God jou vertellen wat je allemaal gedaan hebt in dit tijdelijke leven. God is van alles op de hoogte.

59:22-24 He is God. There is no god save He — the Knower of the Unseen and the Seen; He is the Almighty, the Merciful
He is God. There is no god save He — the King, the Holy, the Perfect, the Faithful, the Determiner of Truth, the Exalted in Might, the Compeller, the Supreme. Glory be to God above that to which they ascribe a partnership!
He is God, the Creator, the Maker, the Giver of Form; to Him belong the best names. To Him gives glory what is in the heavens and the earth; and He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.
God weet alles over het zichtbare en onzichtbare (de engelen, demonen, het diepste punt van de oceaan, de toekomst,…). Op dit moment weet God al wie er naar de hemel zal gaan en wie naar de hel. Enkel wij weten nog niet wat onze permanente verblijfplaats is, en streven we nog steeds naar de best mogelijk uitkomst: de hemel.
Er is één God. Alle lof en eer behoort toe aan God. God is de Schepper van absoluut alles. Elke schelpje, elk blaadje aan een boom, elk grassprietje wordt zorgvuldig door God geschapen en onderhouden.

72:22 Say thou: “None will grant me protection against God, nor will I find, besides Him, a refuge
Wanneer de gehele wereld zich tegen jou keert met de intentie jou te schaden, en God dit niet wenst, zal dit nooit plaatsvinden. Indien God echter wil dat jou iets overkomt, zelfs met de bescherming van de gehele mensheid, zal dit onvermijdelijk gebeuren.
